About

The first ever Regional International Leadership Training Program is about to touch down in Rwanda.  From January 1-10, 2010, young leaders from all corners of the globe will converge on Kigali, Rwanda’s bustling, colourful and hilly capital, for an experience they hope will one day change the world.  The participants have been chosen because they are young – between the ages of 18 and 30 – and already active in, and committed to, human rights work in their respective homes.

This annual International Forum, a gathering of sharp young minds from around the globe, has been held for the past 6 years in the United States on the pretty campus at the University of Connecticut in Storrs.  However, in January, at the invitation of the Rwandan government, the program is stepping out of the United States into Africa to continue the inspiring and challenging global dialogue about human rights .  The UNESCO Chair and Institute of Comparative Human Rights is bringing participants from past forums together again in Rwanda. To open the forum, Dr. Amii Omara-Otunnu will present President Paul Kagame with human rights’ resolutions drafted by the participants. The program includes presentations on the Millennium Development Goals, Rwanda in the aftermath of the genocide, the rule of law, gender violence, the impact of violence on society, poverty and health.  The participants will also spend time travelling the country, learning about the lived realities of these topics.
